So you’re all set for going on an amazing road trip with your dog. Hopefully everything else is in order and now it’s time to think what to pack for your fluffy friend!
To make things easier for you we made a full packing list where you can check that you have remembered everything. We made also a downloadable pdf that you can print and check the boxes as soon as you have packed! You’ll find the pdf in the end of the article.
Make sure you also read our blog post for hands on tip for the actual road trip with your doggo: ROAD TRIPPING WITH A DOG – 11 Things to remember when hitting the road with your furry buddy
So let’s get started with the list:
*Water and food
Make sure you bring enough water and keep it available for your dog at all times. Kibbles and canned food might be most handy unless you have some refrigeration equipment in your car. Ideally bring the food your dog usually eats to avoid any stomach aches.
*Water and food bowls
Take at least one of each and make sure you are able to clean them regularly.
Make sure you have all the regular medications of your dog plus some painkillers at least with you. Meds for worms etc could also be wise to take with you.
Gather a medical kit from some basic supplies for your dog. This includes:
- Emergency phone numbers
- Hydrogen perodixe for wound cleaning
- Antibiotic ointment
- Rubber gloves
- Adhesive tape
- Tick remover
- Nail clippers
*Vaccination certificates and medical records
Remember to check that all vaccinations are up to date and bring the certificates with you, especially if you are crossing states.
*Collars, leashes and harnesses
Remember to put your name and phone number to each of these in case your dog takes off.
*Phone number tags
If you are going hiking or somewhere your dog runs off leash a lot, some kind of tracker could be useful.
*Blankets and towels
*Clothes if your dog wears any
A very useful equipment when the weather is warm. You just have to have somewhere to coool it down regularly.
*Bug spray or other bug repellent
This includes brushes and combs etc, depending on your dogs grooming needs
*Toys and treats
Take your dogs favorite toys for fun and comfort.
*Recent photo of your dog
Take few as fresh pictures of your dog as possible in case he goes missing.
